The Quondong is a native plant found in the central deserts and southern areas of Australia and is featured through use of its seedpods in this roller. The quondong seeds are encased in a handcrafted timber cage with two separate compartments. The layer between the two compartments has holes in it which allows the quandong seeds to move between the cages when moved, creating a similiar effect to that of a rain maker. When rolled along the ground the quondong seeds roll over the dowels in the cage creating a totally different sound and learning adventure. This versatile resource will allow children to explore sound and movement when shaken. When rolled it enhances large motor development, eye hand co-ordination and spatial awareness. Through discussion children will have opportunities to connect with country and our local flora. They will be able to discuss concepts that link with early numeracy development and expand on their scientific knowledge.
