Bring culture to the classroom with this pair of (set of two) smaller shaker style natural caxixi from Awe & Wonder! The caxixi (Ka-shee-shee) is a percussion instrument which originated in Africa and South America. It is made up of a woven basket and solid bottom filled with seeds. The caxixi, just like similar percussion instruments is played by shaking giving children an opportunity to further their understanding of rhythm, dynamics and musical expression. Sounds can be varied by either shaking the contents against the side of the instrument for one sound or against the base for caxixi for a different tone.

A caxixi is a percussion instrument consisting of a woven closed basket with small particles (seeds or rocks). The round bottom is traditionally cut from a dried gourd or coconut. The caxixi creates sounds from vibrations, like the maraca, it is sounded by shaking. Variations in sound are produced by varying the angle at which the caxixi is shaken, determining whether the contents strike the reed basket (softer sound) or the hard bottom (louder, sharper sound).
